Your customers are using their phones to find you, so you better have a mobile-friendly website!
Phones have come a long way over the years, but at the end of the day they are still all about one thing – making connections. These days consumers are using their “phones” to do more than just call your business. They are doing searches for products they need and they are researching the businesses they buy from. So why should you care?
We recently completed a search engine marketing campaign for an antiques client that made one thing apparently clear – if you don’t have a mobile-friendly website, you’re losing potential customers. Our campaign yielded over a million searches and the breakdown of impressions by device was staggering*:
- Mobile Phones – 70%
- Desktop – 17%
- Tablet – 13%
*Results updated based on 2019 campaign activity.
Website sessions on mobile devices overtook desktop sessions in 2014 so these numbers should not be surprising. What is surprising is the number of dealer sites I come across that are not mobile-friendly.
If your website is not mobile-friendly, you will have a high bounce rate. The bounce rate is the percentage of users who click through to your site, but immediately leave. Why do they leave? Because a site that is not mobile-friendly is difficult to navigate and provides a poor user experience. If they can’t find what they are looking for quickly, they will find a competitor’s site that they can navigate. With the current state of the antiques market, can you afford to lose over 50% of the traffic to your website?
